Over the past year I've taken a liking to brewing my own beer. Typically, I'm a spazz when it comes to knowing or not knowing how to do something. There's always a mystique to a product or service and you always take it for what it is if you don't know how to do it yourself. When you first try to do it, there then becomes a tremendous appreciation for the masters of the craft, and then there's a desire to pull off the trends and methodologies that go into making that great product or reprising that great service. This is why I've been geeking out over homebrewing and tweaking my procedures throughout the past twelve months, which has resulted in about 12 brews.
Aside from being a homebrewer, I also help run a Chicago based record label (Hewhocorrupts Inc) that released a tumultuous amount of physical releases and now focuses on a digital only model where all money collected goes to charity. Additionally, I play guitar in the punk band Tension Generation.
Hewhocorrupts Inc has been interested in working with a fantastic band from Kokomo, IN called The Sorely Trying Days. The band recently played in Chicago and stayed at my place after the show. When we all woke up at around 10 AM the following morning, I decided to expose this trio (at the time there were 4 people, but the band is a 3 piece) to the fantastic world of homebrewing by brewing up an Ordinary Bitter recipe that I purchased from the great Austin Homebrew.
The below video was compiled by Mike of the STD's and he also reviews an Apfelwein that I made about six months ago. This video inspired me to start this blog and I hope to brew more with bands in the coming months.
Here's the video:
